Having said that, as a counselor I have seen how hard it is for clients to feel labelled – like being told they have depression.? I truly understand that and I believe sometimes it can make matters worse as the client just focuses on the word ‘depression’ and it becomes their whole world.? You are more than a label.

But if we start looking for solutions we feel more optimistic and it totally changes our mindset.

Consulting with a therapist, taking medication, or engaging in group therapy can be useful. It is also beneficial to stay active and do activities that you love. Exercising, yoga, meditating, and connecting with nature are excellent ways to boost your mood.? As a counselor and seeing a family member go through depression I can say that I found exercise to be so important.? It helps them feel fit, gets them out of bed and releases the feel good endorphins.? Never underestimate the power of exercise.? Even just a 30 minute walk on the beach can make such a difference.? But even better – add in some weights too.

It is crucial to create a support system comprised of those who are close to you. This is helpful for not just the person with depression but the carers involved too.? Everyone’s experience with depression is unique and individual. But I think the biggest take away from this article is that there is help available and that you can overcome depression.? Please don’t feel that life won’t get any better.
