About Me

My name is Melanie O’Brien and I’m married with a 17 year old son and have 2 pet rabbits named Mocha and Oreo! I’m a qualified counsellor and children’s services worker and have been running businesses since I was 21 years old.

This website has been in the back of my mind for many years. Last year it was heartbreaking watching a family member struggle with anxiety and depression. This was the push I needed to make this website a reality to help others who may also be struggling.

In my own personal journey I have had to:

  • See someone I love go through anxiety, depression and endure suicidal thoughts
  • Heal myself from childhood bullying
  • Learn how to come to terms with grief
  • Learn how to build resilience
  • Learn that it is alright to fail. In fact that teaches you the best life lessons!
  • To be independent from a young age
  • Discover my own strengths and weaknesses
  • Learn from the many mistakes I have made
  • Become disciplined
  • Find my identity
  • Build self belief and self love
  • Learn to stop and smell the roses! (I can be a workaholic!)

But all of this has dragged me out of my comfort zone and made me the stronger, more determined, and more motivated person that I am today.

 

I love seeing people succeed in life. Whether that is finding more balance in life, reaching qualification goals, or reaching life goals. Success comes in many forms, and I love to see people living a happy and fulfilling life.

 

What I don’t like is seeing people making excuses for their life. For example I’ll never be able to start the business that I want as I wasn’t born into a rich family or I’ll never be able to lose weight as all my family is naturally big. Taking responsibility for your life is key to achieving your goals. Excuses will just stop you from achieving the life you desire.

 

What breaks my heart is seeing people who have put all their time and effort into achieving their goals but struggle with a mental health challenge and are not able to access the tools to be able to get them through it.

 

The barrier may be money, inability to access an appointment, or simply not knowing where to go. I want to change this.

 

I want to be able to reach and help as many people as possible with information and resources that can be accessed 24/7. That means you can access the information you need when you need it. You can become your own therapist. You are in the driving seat.

 

I want you to see that you can create the life you want. Does it take hard work yes. But can you achieve it? That’s up to you!

 

Working as a counsellor I’m privileged to have witnessed some of the biggest transformations in people lives. Seeing clients go from feeling lost in their life, not knowing what to do next, and feeling hopeless to achieving the confidence and motivation to reach their life goals is rewarding beyond words.

 

But not all clients have had success stories. I started questioning why only some clients were motivated and successful in changing their life. I then started questioning the therapies that I had been taught whilst studying to be a counsellor. Based on what I had seen in my private practice and in my own life experience.

 

Fast forward a few years and then a family member started struggling with anxiety and depression which would eventually lead to suicidal thoughts. I cannot put into words the agonising feeling of watching someone you love go through such indescribable pain that they are actually thinking of ending their life.

 

The family member started seeing a psychologist and started taking antidepressants. The homework that the psychologist gave this person was exactly as I would prescribe. That is what we are trained to prescribe. But here lies what I perceive as the problem.

 

In my experience as a counsellor and in life, mindset has so much to do with our quality of life. I believe what we focus on is how we behave. For example, if you wake up and immediately think I didn’t sleep well. I’m tired. I’m going to have a bad day what sort of a day do you think you would have if this was your focus?

 

Whereas if you got up and went for a walk before you started your day then how would you feel? Do you think you would have more energy and feel ready to take on the challenges of the day? (A very simplified version but you get my drift)

 

Now I’m not saying that psychologists and counsellors have got it wrong. But I do believe there is more that can be implemented and it starts with you! The individual. How self-motivated are you to change your life? If you were given the tools to help you succeed, would you use them?

 

Another problem with seeing a therapist is that it is expensive. Do you need more stress in your life with the financial burden? This played on my mind as I knew so many people needed help but simply could not afford it. That is why I needed to create this website. A place to access free resources to help you change your life.

 

So if you’re self-motivated, looking to heal, grow and commit and work towards your dreams and ambitions then this website is for you.

 

The family member that I mentioned has managed to turn their life around. I won’t pretend it was easy. It took courage, commitment, and determination but they did it. So can you!
